People ask us which season is the best time to come. The honest answer is that the ridge is a different place four times a year, and the right one depends on what you're after. Here's how the year moves out here.
Spring, slow and green
Spring comes up the ridge slowly. Columbine and trillium return to the walking trails, the woods go from bare to bright in what feels like a week, and the first spring greens show up at the breakfast table. Mornings stay cool enough for a sweater on the porch and a second cup of coffee. If you like a quiet, unhurried stay before the summer, this is your season.
Summer, the full run of the place
By summer the garden is in full swing. There's tennis and croquet on the lawn, raspberry tea, and long shaded pauses in a hammock. Fireflies come up over the fields at dusk. Summer suits families and anyone who wants the whole property at hand, and it's the easiest season to fill a day without ever leaving the ridge.
Fall, the one you picture
Fall is the one most people imagine. The maples and oaks turn the whole ridge, the hiking gets its best light, and the fire pit earns its keep in the evening. It's our busiest, most beautiful stretch, straight through Thanksgiving, so book a little further ahead. Come for the color, stay for the cool nights and the wood smoke.
Winter, the quiet
Winter is the ridge at its most still. Snow on the paths, wood smoke in the air, a shoveled walk to the fire, and a porch made for slow mornings by the window. If what you want is stillness, a good book, and nowhere in particular to be, come in winter. We'll keep the fire going.
Whatever season you choose, the pace is the same. Come see which one is yours.
